Scientists have found that 50 mg of caffeine in the morning improves brain function.
Scientists from Thailand analyzed the consumption of caffeinated drinks and found out how much caffeine is enough to improve brain function. This was reported by the journal Physiology & Behavior.
The researchers recruited 25 young men who typically consumed little coffee, tea, or one can of caffeinated soda per day. They were divided into two groups: a participant in each of them received both a placebo and real caffeine.
Volunteers visited the laboratory three times, underwent cognitive tests and electroencephalograms.
Scientists have found that 30 minutes after drinking caffeine, the average power of alpha waves decreases and delta, beta, and theta waves are activated. Cognitive function, i.e. hand-eye processing speed, working memory and attention, improved 30 minutes after caffeine intake and 35 minutes after the exercise break.
In other words, brain activity associated with sleepiness decreased and cognitive function improved 30 minutes after taking 50 mg of caffeine. Scientists note that drinks with low caffeine content equivalent to one serving espresso coffee, can enhance mental clarity and improve the brain's executive abilities.
